Reflection Activity

Garden of Eden

Prayerfully reflect on Genesis 2:8–9:

“And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil."

Then, ask yourself this question:

In what ways could you use your creative power and imagination to spread the order and beauty of the garden into the rest of creation?

Prayerfully reflect on Genesis 3:8a:

"Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day... "

Find a place of solitude within the garden. Have a seat and open your hands upwards as a sign of openness to God. Focus in on your breathing and count 10 breaths at a time, then start again. Do this until you notice your body relaxes. Then, imagine God walking through the garden with you.

Ask yourself these questions:

How would you feel if God was walking alongside you in the garden? Embrace that feeling.

What would He be saying to you while you walk side by side through the garden?
